Customer Case: From Grid Analysis to a Stable Off-Grid Energy System
Agnes Beersmans

Sometimes the root cause of power issues is not where you expect it to be.

In early 2025, we were contacted by FVB Interieur, a modern woodworking company operating an extensive fleet of CNC and woodworking machines. The company was experiencing recurring issues that appeared to be related to power quality.

Rather than immediately proposing a technical solution, we first carried out a thorough analysis.

Starting Point: Measurement and Analysis

Together with Calintec, a monitoring system was installed to assess grid quality and energy consumption over an extended period.

The initial results quickly revealed voltage instability. To obtain a complete understanding of the situation, the monitoring campaign was eventually extended to six months.

During this period, several configurations were evaluated:

  • Supply from the public grid
  • Supply from the generator
  • Combination of grid and generator
  • Combination of grid, generator, and capacitor bank

The collected data clearly demonstrated that power quality played a major role in the issues experienced.

From Analysis to System Design

Based on the measurement results, a Victron-based energy storage system was selected to create a stable internal power network for the entire production environment.

The installation includes:

  • 90 kVA Victron UPS system
  • 24 kVA grid connection for battery charging
  • Integration of the existing generator
  • Preparation for a 40 kWp solar PV installation
  • ZYC Energy battery storage

By configuring the installation as an off-grid system, all machinery is supplied from a stable internal grid while battery storage, generator power, and future solar generation work together intelligently.

Container-Based Installation

The complete installation was housed in a dedicated technical container located next to the existing generator.

This approach offers several advantages:

✓ Fast deployment

✓ Minimal impact on existing infrastructure

✓ Easy future expansion

✓ Compact integration of all energy systems

The Result

Today, FVB Interieur benefits from a stable power supply that is far less sensitive to external voltage fluctuations.

This project once again demonstrates the importance of performing a detailed grid analysis before selecting a solution. Not every energy-related issue is solved by adding more power capacity or increasing the grid connection. In many cases, success depends on correctly identifying the root cause and designing the right system architecture.

For installers, this case provides an excellent example of how battery storage, generator integration, and energy management can work together to solve complex power quality challenges.
