Solar power for emission-free grass management at airports

Ysebaert has supplied solutions for several international airport projects where robotic mowers require an off-grid charging station. Recently we received photos of a PV system we delivered earlier, which is now fully operational at Schiphol Airport. The system is part of a broader European concept for autonomous and emission-free grass management along runways and taxiways. With this project, we demonstrate the strength of off-grid solar-powered charging infrastructure. The battery system enables the charging of three professional robotic mowers.

The battery system consists of the following Victron Energy components:

All components were integrated by our team into an outdoor battery cabinet. These PV-based charging stations offer airports a reliable and flexible solution in situations where a grid connection is not easily available. The system at Schiphol contributes to the ambition of achieving fully sustainable and emission-free grass management by 2030.

The latest charging system we produced for this application has also been delivered. Installation is planned later this year in Norway, with full operation scheduled from spring 2026 when the mowing season begins. This off-grid charging system is suitable for charging two mowers.

The system consists of:

This solution was also custom-engineered and integrated into a suitable battery cabinet. Those interested in off-grid energy systems are welcome to contact our team for more information and a tailored proposal.
