With firmware update v1.24, Victron Energy introduces an innovative “PV Inverter only (without batteries)” mode for Multi RS inverters. This ESS mode allows systems to operate without batteries by feeding surplus solar energy directly back into the grid. Both single-phase and three-phase setups can export their excess efficiently, while off-grid systems can regulate frequency without battery storage.
Thanks to this improvement, a Multi RS can now be installed without an initial battery investment, with the option to add a battery later for backup power or to enable Dynamic ESS features.
Note: Energy Meter support is not compatible with this mode. In scenarios requiring zero feed-in or Dynamic ESS control, the traditional ESS setup remains necessary.
Additionally, firmware v1.24 ensures that three-phase systems always remain grid-connected during firmware updates. To activate the new features, download the latest version of VictronConnect, then go to Settings > ESS > ESS Mode > PV Inverter only (without batteries) on your Multi RS.
