Victron introduces the Cerbo GX MK3, the new high-performance model in the GX range. In terms of connectivity and functionality, it remains virtually identical to the well-known Cerbo GX MK2. The major difference is on the inside: significantly more processing power. Victron sums it up as follows: “Exactly the same as the Cerbo GX MK2, but then faster.”
What is the difference compared with the Cerbo GX MK2?
The Cerbo GX MK2 remains an excellent choice for conventional Victron installations. The MK3 has mainly been developed for systems that require more processing power, for example when making intensive use of Node-RED, Signal K or other automations.
To achieve this, the hardware has received a major upgrade:
| Cerbo GX MK2 | Cerbo GX MK3 |
Processor | Allwinner A20 | TI AM625 |
CPU | 2 × Cortex A7, 1,2 GHz | 4 × Cortex A53, 1,4 GHz |
Architecture | 32-bit | 64-bit |
Memory | 1 GB DDR3 | 1 GB DDR4 |
Relative performance | 1× | 3 tot 4× |
Ideal for | Standard GX applications | More demanding automation and Node-RED |
Victron notes that the actual performance gain depends on the workload, but positions the MK3 at approximately 3 to 4 times the performance of the MK2. The hardware differences are also confirmed in Victron’s technical comparison.
And what about the Nucleo GX?
The Nucleo GX will continue to exist alongside the Cerbo GX MK3. They are not direct successors to one another.
The Nucleo GX is the simpler GX solution for systems featuring, for example, Multi RS, inverters, Orion XS and SmartSolar charge controllers. It includes VE.Can and VE.Direct, among other connections, but does not offer the extensive I/O options of the Cerbo. The Nucleo has no tank level inputs, digital inputs or relays.
This makes the choice relatively straightforward:
🔹 Nucleo GX: a compact and more affordable GX solution when the additional connectivity options of a Cerbo are not required.
🔹 Cerbo GX MK2: the trusted choice for most Victron systems, offering extensive connectivity options.
🔹 Cerbo GX MK3: the same extensive functionality as the MK2, but with significantly more processing power. Particularly suitable for advanced systems and intensive use of Node-RED.
🔹 Ekrano GX: an interesting option when advanced GX functionality and an integrated touchscreen are both required.
