Ensure Optimal Lifespan of Your Lithium Battery with These Tips!

Lithium batteries offer high energy efficiency and long lifespan — provided they are properly managed. With the tips below, you’ll get the most out of your installation and prevent premature wear.

TIP 1: Enable BatteryLife in ESS Systems During the Winter Period

The BatteryLife function prevents the battery from remaining at a low state of charge for extended periods. In winter, when less PV energy is available, the State of Charge (SoC) can drop to its minimum limit and stay there without this function. This can prevent the battery from fully recharging and, over time, reduce its capacity.

BatteryLife ensures the battery is regularly charged to 100% SoC, which is essential for maintaining a healthy battery.

Alternatively, you can enable scheduled charging so that the battery is fully charged at fixed times.

TIP 2: Be Careful with Energy Management Systems (EMS)

An Energy Management System (EMS) often controls the operation of batteries, but not all systems take into account that lithium batteries need to be fully charged occasionally. When a battery constantly operates within a narrow charge window — for example, between 20% and 80% — this can lead to capacity loss and reduced performance over time.

Make sure that your EMS configuration periodically allows a full charging cycle up to 100%. This helps maintain cell balancing and significantly extends the battery’s lifespan.

TIP 3: Use at Least Software Version 3.50 for Venus OS

If you use Pylontech batteries, it’s important that the Venus OS software is version 3.50 or higher. From this version onward, charging automatically stops when a cell voltage exceeds about 3.5 V, providing better protection against overcharging.

In many warranty cases, we notice that the software was outdated — an issue that could have been easily avoided with the proper version.
