From Power Disturbances and Voltage Fluctuations to a Stable Energy System

In 2025, FVB Interieur contacted us with a clear challenge: the power supply within their production environment needed to become more reliable.

FVB Interieur is a modern woodworking company specializing in custom kitchens, cabinets, and interior projects. Their production relies on powerful CNC machines and other advanced woodworking equipment. A stable supply voltage is essential to prevent production losses, machine malfunctions, and unexpected downtime.

Measuring Is Knowing: Comprehensive Power Quality Analysis as the Foundation

During an initial site visit, we quickly noticed that the root cause might not be the machines themselves, but the quality of the power supply.

We therefore proposed carrying out an extensive power quality analysis. Together with Nick from Calintec, we installed a professional monitoring system that tracked energy consumption, power quality, and voltage stability over several months.

The initial results confirmed our suspicions. The grid voltage proved to be insufficiently stable, causing the synchronized generator to disconnect regularly during production processes.

Further testing also showed that the installation operated much more reliably when running solely on the generator. Voltage quality was significantly higher compared to operation on the public electricity grid.

This is clearly visible in the graph below.

Six Months of Testing to Find the Right Solution

To make a well-founded decision, the monitoring period was extended to six months.

During this period, we analyzed several operating scenarios:

  • Supply via generator
  • Supply via the public grid
  • Combination of grid and generator
  • Combination of grid, generator, and capacitor bank

This extensive measurement campaign enabled us to determine exactly which solution was required to permanently resolve the voltage issues.

Energy Storage as the Key to Stable Production

Based on the measurement results, we developed an Energy Storage System (ESS) using Victron Energy technology and ZYC batteries.

The selected configuration creates a completely stable internal electricity network on which all machines can operate independently of voltage fluctuations on the public grid.

The installation includes:

  • A 90 kVA Victron UPS and battery storage system
  • 184 kWh of ZYC Simpo5000 batteries
  • A 24 kVA grid connection for charging the batteries during the winter months
  • Automatic generator start-up when required
  • Preparation for 40 kWp of solar panels
  • Full integration of generator, battery storage, and future solar energy

The system acts as an intelligent energy buffer that absorbs voltage fluctuations while continuously supplying stable voltage and frequency to the production facility.

The system is now operational, even without the solar installation. The graph below clearly demonstrates the impact of the system on voltage and frequency stability within the company.

 

Containerized Solution with Room for Expansion

To ensure maximum flexibility, FVB Interieur chose to house the entire energy system in a technical container located next to the existing generator.

This solution not only provides a compact and well-organized installation, but also leaves room for future expansion with solar panels and additional energy storage.

As a result, the company becomes less dependent on the electricity grid while further reducing both energy costs and generator operating hours.
